Why Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiologists specialise in using exercise as a clinical intervention for chronic disease, injury, and complex health conditions. Programs are individually prescribed, medically informed, and progressed based on objective assessment and functional outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Exercise physiologists work with people living with a wide range of health conditions, injuries, and functional limitations. This includes chronic disease (such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and osteoporosis), musculoskeletal injuries, persistent pain, neurological conditions, balance and mobility impairment, and age-related decline. Programs are individually prescribed and tailored to medical history, functional capacity, and goals.

No referral is required to see an exercise physiologist privately. However, a referral from your GP or specialist is needed if you wish to access services through Medicare (Chronic Disease Management/EPC), NDIS, DVA, or certain other funding pathways.

Yes. Exercise physiology can be delivered in your home when appropriate. Home-based sessions are commonly used for people with reduced mobility, transport limitations, medical complexity, or those who prefer care at home. Programs can also combine home-based and clinic-based sessions depending on your needs and progression.

Exercise physiology is covered under Medicare through Chronic Disease Management (EPC) plans when referred by a GP. Services may also be funded through the NDIS (self-managed or plan-managed), DVA, aged care funding, or accessed privately. Eligibility depends on your funding type and individual circumstances.
