 Why Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiology is not general fitness training.
It is clinical exercise prescription, designed for people with health conditions, injuries, or age-related changes.

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist:

  • Assesses your strength, balance, mobility, and functional capacity
  • Considers your medical history, medications, and risk factors
  • Designs safe, individualised exercise programs based on evidence
  • Progresses your exercise as your capacity improves

This approach is especially important if you are managing:

  • Chronic health conditions
  • Falls risk or balance concerns
  • Pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility
  • Recovery after illness, surgery, or injury
  • Reduced confidence with movement

Frequently Asked Questions

An exercise physiologist is a university-qualified allied health professional who specialises in prescribing safe, evidence-based exercise to improve health, function, and independence.

Exercise physiologists work with people managing injuries, chronic conditions, mobility limitations, and age-related changes. Programs are individually tailored and may focus on strength, balance, cardiovascular health, pain reduction, and confidence with daily movement.

At Healthsmart Exercise Physiology, all programs are delivered by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and can be provided in-clinic or at home.

No referral is required to book a private exercise physiology appointment.

However, a referral may be needed if you wish to access funding through:

  • Medicare (Chronic Disease Management plans)
  • NDIS
  • DVA
  • WorkCover or private health insurance

If you’re unsure whether a referral applies to your situation, we can guide you through the process and liaise with your GP or referrer if needed.

Yes. We offer both clinic-based and home-based exercise physiology sessions across the Gold Coast and Northern NSW.

Home-based sessions are ideal for people who:

  • Prefer exercising at home
  • Have mobility or transport limitations
  • Are recovering from illness or surgery
  • Want personalised support in their own environment

All home programs are individually tailored and use simple, effective equipment to support safe and meaningful progress.
